Rimado de la Conquista de Granada (Rhyme
of the Conquest of Granada). Facsimile edition of a interesting
beautiful manuscript of medium format and size (148 sheets of vellum
of 14,5 x 21,5 cm) currently kept at the extraordinary library of the
Condé Museum, Chantilly (France), under the inexact title of
"Devocionario de la Reyna Doña Juana a quien llamaron la Loca", press
mark 604 (1339)-XIV-D-14, which is a rhymed reminder of the most
remarkable domestic achievements of the Catholic Monarchs -Reyes
Católicos-, specially focused in putting an end to the
Reconquista, written by Pedro (or Pero) Marcuello, alcaide of
Calatorao (Zaragoza), at the end of the 15th century, between 1482 and
1502 to win the monarchs' favours and their daughter's, Princess
Juana. It is a true "rich" codex, not only for the historic value of a
witness's direct testimony of one of the most exciting events in the
Spanish History, but also for the 58 miniatures at full page of this
forgotten manuscript and the numerous decorated initial letters and
margin borders of its written pages, both decorated with fine
applications of gold leaves, supreme exponent of the library paintings
from Aragón in the passage from the Medieval Age to the Modern Age,
that is, from the Gothic to the Renaissance. The main author of the
critic edition, compiled in one additional volume, is Estrella
Ruiz-Gálvez y Priego, professor at the Caen University (France). Both
volumes are presented in a box matching the binding: stamped
leather -restored reproduction from the Mudejar original kept in the
manuscript- for the facsimile and cloth with spine for the
supplementary volume.
